AFGE Endorses Fred Hubbell for Governor
WASHINGTON, Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Fred Hubbell for election this November as Iowa’s next governor.
“Fred Hubbell is a fifth-generation Iowan who believes in supporting the working class, and that’s why we’re proud to announce our support of him today,” said AFGE District 8 National Vice President Gregg James. “Fred has spent years as a dues-paying union member because he knows the importance of unions in this country, and we believe he’ll fight to protect workers in Iowa if elected governor.”
“As a lifelong progressive, Fred Hubbell is just the leader Iowa needs,” James added. “Once he’s elected, Fred will expand voter rights and workers’ rights, and will help support America’s workforce – federal public servants. He will be a strong ally for working people all across Iowa, and we are excited to work with him for years to come.”
Nearly 9,000 federal workers live in Iowa – supporting the military, caring for veterans, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
“Federal employees are integral to this state’s wellbeing and the economic success of many rural communities,” said Hubbell. “They are critical to public safety, provide services used by all residents of the state, and their retirement security and livelihood are valuable and important to us all.”
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 8 has more than 10,000 dues-paying members in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
